Malin Selander, author of “Weave to Weave” and numerous other books was a renowned Swedish weaving teacher. During the 1960’s and 1970’s she visited the United States many times to share her enthusiasm for weaving and thus sparked an interest in Swedish-style weaving for American hand weavers.

Ms. Selander inspired the piece entitled “A Sample Weave” which we will weave during this three-day course.  Four Glimåkra countermarch looms will be dressed and ready to weave upon your arrival (a loom is yours for the duration of class – no round robins here). Measuring 27-1/2” wide on the loom with 848 warp ends of a combination of 16/2 and 16/1 half-bleached linen, this beautiful sampler will be a piece that you refer to often in your weaving explorations. Not only is it a sampler but also the perfect dimensions and weight for a table square.

Some of the highlights of this curriculum include:

    • Overview of winding and beaming a linen warp
    • Weaving with linen tricks and tips
    • Weaving to "square"
    • Shuttle and bobbin considerations
    • Use of the wooden temple
    • Finishing linen for a crisp appearance

Three days of instruction include weaving but also what Ms. Selander refers to as applied theory. You will have an opportunity to choose the color of your line linen for the weft (16/1 & 16/2) prior to class beginning. If you are a quick weaver there is an opportunity to weave two of these samplers (perhaps in different colors?) at an additional charge of $75 for the second piece.
