The monks' belt weave structure was the predecessor to overshot and predates the Christian Era. We really don't know if the structure was woven for monks' belts but it certainly is a clever name! This weave structure is a two-block weave and is woven with "tabby".
During this three-day course participants will enjoy designing their own runner under Susan's tutelage. The 20/2 line linen (unbleached) warp measures 13-3/4" wide on the loom with 278 warp ends. The tabby weft is 20/1 line linen (unbleached) and the pattern weft will be Borgs 6/1 Faro wool yarn, which is available in sixty-four glorious colors. All materials used in this class are from Swedish manufacturers Bockens and Borgs.
When not weaving, we will be gathered at the classroom table studying:
All Glimakra 4-shaft counterbalance looms will be beamed, threaded, sleyed and tied-on prior to your arrival. A loom is available for each student for the class duration - no round robins. If you are a quick weaver you may weave a second runner at the cost of $48.
