Susan has been enamored with the Great Wheel (Wool Wheel, Walking Wheel) since the early 1990's. While working for several historic sites, she would bring her Great Wheel along to dazzle spectators. She would always gather a crowd!

Susan will begin with the history of the spinning wheel via a PowerPoint show highlighting the basic treadle spinning wheel and how the Great Wheel evolved. Also included will be tips and tricks as how to make drive bands, cornhusk bearings, preparation of fiber, dressing a chair and floor stand distaff and the long draw technique. Attendees should not bring a Great Wheel; there will be wheels available to "test drive" from the Conovers' personal collection.
